Mapping a pathway for the next decade

The concluding conference session aims to provide direction for conference delegates and ICLEI-A/NZ on the next decade's pathway forward.

By exploring our collective success over the past decade we can ensure we are heading in the right direction. Conference delegates will be given with an extraordinary opportunity to reflect upon and revise their own organisational plan.

Importantly, this session will also provide input into how ICLEI-A/NZ, the local government sector, and the partners with whom we interact, can navigate a sustainable pathway into the future.

This input will be achieved by compiling the themes and directions emerging from the keynote presentations, panels and concurrent sessions, to enable the delegates to reflect on priorities and help build the action plan for the next decade.

How a pathways approach fits within the context of the ACCELERATING NOW! Conference

ICLEI-A/NZ is utilising this gathering to reflect upon the past decade of:

- Local government's role in sustainable development,
- Local government's interactions with partners; and in particular
- The role that ICLEI-A/NZ has played to build and support a movement to achieve tangible improvements in environmental conditions.

The conference provides us with an opportunity to explore the factors contributing to successful approaches and learnings over the past 10 years, and use these as guiding principles for moving forward. We can then draw on these conversations to adjust our own organisational compass with a broader focus that looks at how the local government sector can move forward and define the pathway ahead.  

Each participating organisation will progress along the sustainability pathway at their own rate and this conference will help identify opportunities for action and commitment.
